New York - A new study of brand awareness among fee-based digital music services found that Apple's iTunes gained significantly in 2006, along with MySpace and Yahoo Music, while Napster saw some erosion in the minds of consumers.

The Ipsos TEMPO Digital Music Brandscape report found that 66% of U.S. downloaders 12 and older are aware of iTunes, up from 57% in 2005, while Napster's brand awareness fell from 79% in 2005 to 68% last year.

Awareness of Yahoo Music in 2006 reached 53%, up from 49% the previous year.

The most significant development in 2006, Ipsos found, was the strong gain in awareness of MySpace, which leapt from 16% to 54% in just one year.
