Searchles Receives Cease and Desist Letter from Grouper.com

Washington - Searchles, the developer of a social search platform, has received a letter demanding that the site "immediately discontinue" its practice of making available videos from Sony-owned video-sharing site Grouper.com, TechCrunch reported.

The letter said that by streaming the videos through its media player, Searches is "substantially altering the user experience," obscuring features that allow Grouper users to send videos to friends and save them as "favorites."

Grouper said that it is giving Searchles until Monday to pull the videos.

Searchles last month raised an undisclosed amount in its second round off angel funding.

The site, an evolution of the search engine Dumbfind, allows users to develop personal filtering features, such as tags and keywords, aimed at delivering more precise, relevant search results.

The technology also suggests other content related to a user's interests.
