Entertainment-Focused Carrier Amp'd Mobile Raises $107 Million

Los Angeles - Amp'd Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator targeting young entertainment consumers, has raised $107 million in its fifth round of venture capital financing, led by Old Lane Management, PEHub.com reported.

Also participating in the round -- which was disclosed in an SEC filing -- were previous investors Columbia Capital, Highland Capital Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Intel Capital, MTV Networks, Tudor Investments and Universal Music Group.

Los Angeles-based Amp'd operates a wireless service that focuses on entertainment content from partners including MTV and Universal Music.

Since launching in late 2005, the company has attracted over 100,000 subscribers for its service, which recently launched in Canada through a partnership with Telus, and in Japan via a new portal service for KDDI subscribers.
