New York - Sirius Satellite Radio said on Wednesday that, should its proposed $4.7 billion merger with rival XM Satellite Radio be approved, the combined company will expand its offering to include both cheaper and more expensive subscription options than the current $12.95 package.

"After the merger, customers may elect to receive fewer channels at a monthly price lower than $12.95; substantially similar programming at the existing $12.95 price; or more channels…at a modest premium to the cost of one service, and considerably less than the cost of subscribing to both services," Sirius said.

The company would offer programming on more of an "a la carte basis," meaning subscribers who are interested in Howard Stern and NASCAR, as opposed to Oprah Winfrey, might be able to pick and choose the channels for which they pay.

Federal regulators are currently examining the proposed merger, which has already figured in several hearings before Congress.
