Obama & Clinton Cozy Up in (YouTube’s) BedAuthored by Scott Goldberg on March 21, 2007 - 6:12pm.
Who knew the 2008 election would be so sexy, so early? Don’t you just love it? Unofficial polls say people are tired (or bored) of Iraq. Not sure what that means, but there you have it…the American people want something fresh. They demand it. And what better way to give it to them than with some hot, steamy internet video banter? Does anyone doubt the relevance of that fast food treat called “YouTube” now? I didn’t think so! It’s here to stay, people, accept it.
The sparring began when an Obama supporter posted a spoof echoing Apple’s 1984 commercial, which in turn echoed George Orwell’s novel “1984.” Unoriginal as that was, a Clinton supporter slashed back with the same spoof. Yes, an unoriginal spoof was actually followed with an even less original spoof. Nicely done.
Thankfully, for the sake of creativity, the first film won the popularity contest, getting an impressive 1.6 million views since its posting on March 5. The anti-Obama clip, entitled “Barack 1984” has had only 250,000 views – still impressive, but barely a dent compared to the anti-Clinton piece entitled “Vote Different.” Congratulations Senator Obama…for the first time in history, being unpopular has paid off.
So who will catch the Internet Video Combat fire next? It’s a beautiful medium when you consider the possibilities…politicians brawling on YouTube. Anyone smell a reality show?
We might actually get 18-year-olds to vote this go-round. Believe that. Yes…the sound you hear is not Hillary's head about to explode...it's the Republican Party crapping its pants. Gross? Definitely. But it’s the YouTube Age. Republicans crapping their pants will now be televised.
