Los Angeles - Real D, a developer of digital 3D cinema technology, announced this week that it has received a $50 million investment from the Shamrock Capital Growth Fund, a private equity firm.

Los Angeles-based Real D has so far deployed its digital 3D projection systems on 700 screens in 14 countries, and expects to count 1,000 by the end of the year.

The company's technology has been used to screen films such as Paramount's "Beowulf" and Disney's "Chicken Little."

Real D plans to use the investment to fund the rapid development of its delivery systems.
