Holmdel, N.J. - A federal judge has issued a permanent injunction against Internet telephone service Vonage, in connection with a patent infringement lawsuit filed against the company by Verizon.

The court's move, which orders Vonage to stop using technology patented by Verizon, follows a recent jury decision that Vonage had in fact infringed on three Verizon patents.

The injunction has not been put into effect and Vonage has requested a hearing, now scheduled for April 6, where it will argue to obtain a stay on the permanent injunction.

Shares in Vonage were down $1.05 at $3.00 as of mid-afternoon on Friday, a loss of over 25%.
