San Diego - Worldwide revenue from portable game systems -- such as Nintendo's DS and Sony's PSP -- is expected to exceed $10 billion this year, according to a report from market research firm DFC Intelligence.

Nintendo's DS -- which outsold all gaming platforms in February -- "has the potential to be the best-selling interactive entertainment platform ever," said DFC analyst David Cole.

The firm said that developers of casual games as well as high-end PC games could benefit from the rising use of portable platforms among adults, as some PSP titles have generated over $100 million in revenue.

"Under the right scenario, by 2011 the combined installed base of the DS and PSP could exceed that for the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360," added Cole.
