Microsoft Sold 20 Million Vistas…But Did They Deliver Them?

Authored by Scott Goldberg on March 26, 2007 - 3:20pm.
Where's my Vista? On January 18th I wrote an article about my forthcoming adventure with Microsoft Vista.  I had just purchased a Toshiba Satellite M115 – “Windows Vista Capable,” I was told – and downloaded Microsoft’s Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, which said I was ripe for the Home Premium edition.  I purchased my Toshiba in the free upgrade period, which meant I could install Vista by paying an $11 shipping fee and nothing more.  Then today I find out Microsoft proudly announced that 20 million Vistas have been sold in the month since its release.  And here it is March 26, and I’m thinking, “Where the F is mine?”

Bill Mannion, director of product marketing for Windows, said in an AP interview, “It’s a stronger than expected start.”  Well, that’s great Bill, congratulations.  Glad to hear it.  Wish I could share the love…but I haven’t gotten mine.  And I’m starting to think I never will.

I tried Vista at CES in Vegas, so I know it exists.  And the experience was good enough to convince me I should give it a try.  But we’re two months past the order date, and I’m still Vista-less.

Which is good, because in that time Apple has convinced me it’s probably a waste of time anyway.  And it’s super uncool, didn’t you hear?  Give me a Macbook.  I’ll take the $11 shipping loss.

it turns out that MSFT lied thru their teeth

Starting in late October, PC makers included coupons for free or low-cost Vista upgrades that could be used once the software became available at the end of January. Microsoft's February sales total includes those promised upgrades, http://www.chippewa.com/articles/2007/03/26/ap/hitech/d8o43bso0.txt so instead of being sales for one month, the 20 million sales actually were 4 months of sales... (most of them XP upgrade sales over a 3 month period) i hope you all realize what that really represents.... it means your Company is willing to lie thru it's teeth to you, blatant unambiguous lies. ok if that were not enough, THEY ACTUALLY ARE DOING HORRIBLY, SALES WISE.... when the market digests this, it will be scary.. actually not really, the market already knew of the horrible sales, and why MSFT stock has been doing so badly lately.... worse, MSFT knew themselves that it took 2 months to roll out XP, the didn't even have boxed sets on shelves till a month after, while Vista had a full launch, yet MSFt is comparing Vista 1 month and saying it is double XP sales...
