Los Angeles - News Corp.'s MySpace announced on Tuesday that it has filed a lawsuit against Sanford Wallace, the self-proclaimed "King of Spam," for violations of state and federal anti-spam and anti-phishing statutes.

Wallace has also been sued AOL, among others, and was forced to pay $4 million to settle a suit brought by the Federal Trade Commission.

MySpace alleges in the lawsuit that Wallace implemented a phishing scheme on MySpace in October 2006 to gain unauthorized access to users' accounts, creating false profiles, groups and forums to direct users to his websites, as well as posting thousands of unwanted ads on MySpace promoting his sites.

"We will continue to aggressively protect our members through a combination of legal action, law enforcement pursuit, and technological enhancements," said MySpace chief security officer Hemanshu Nigam.
