New York - Satirical news publisher The Onion on Tuesday announced the launch of an online video news network, which will publish embeddable, ad-supported streaming video news clips each week.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the publisher has invested $1 million in The Online News Network.

"We discovered there are occasionally times in our viewers' lives when they are forced to be away from a television," said Onion editor-in-chief Scott Dikkers.

"The Onion News Network will fill these gaps of news access with a seriousness and integrity missing from news today."

The video news reports will also be available by podcast on iTunes, on Helio's mobile devices, and on TiVo through the broadband TiVoCast service.
