EMI Licenses Songs for Sharing on Secure U.K. ISP Playlouder

London - Playlouder MSP announced on Wednesday that major record label EMI has licensed its catalog for sharing on the U.K.-based Internet access service, which provides payments to artists and copyright holders in exchange for the rights of its subscribers to freely share music with one another.

Expected to launch in beta version next month and in full version this summer, the Playlouder service will include the costs associated with licensing songs from EMI -- as well as from Sony BMG, AIM, Nettwerk and Epitaph -- in its monthly subscription fees.

Playlouder said that music available on its service will be protected with digital rights management (DRM) to ensure artists are fairly compensated for songs traded freely amongst subscribers.

The company also plans to offer its service to subscribers of other ISPs via white label partnerships.
