Washington - dotMobi, an Irish joint venture offering Internet addresses for mobile phones, said on Wednesday that it has received an investment from Visa International.

The company did not disclose the size of the investment.

Visa joins a consortium that also represents 13 mobile operators, network and device manufacturers and Internet content providers.

"This alliance, coupled with our recently launched Visa mobile platform, positions Visa to advance the adoption of mobile services," said Patrick Gauthier, Visa's senior vice president of innovation.

More than 450,000 domains have been registered with dotMobi since the .mobi domain launched to the public in September.
