Los Angeles - Vuguru, the independent production studio recently launched by former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, on Thursday announced a deal with News Corp.'s MySpace to debut its "Prom Queen" online series exclusively on the social network.

The series will premiere on Sunday, April 1 on MySpace, and offer over eighty 90-second episodes.

In addition to a dedicated profile page for the show on MySpace, Vuguru has also created individual profiles for many of the show's characters.

"With this partnership, the future of on-line story telling is now," said Michael Eisner.

"MySpace offers the Prom Queen audience a complete experience by giving them the ability to stay connected to the show, the characters and other Prom Queen fans in a way that no other on-line drama has ever done before."

Following its premiere on MySpace, "Prom Queen" will become available 12 hours later on sites including YouTube, Veoh and PromQueen.tv.

Prom Queen not the first online drama

While I applaud Michael Eisner for diving into the online entertainment pool, I believe he's overstated the newness of what he's doing. "Something To Be Desired" - http://www.somethingtobedesired.com - for example, has been producing online drama (mixed with some comedy) for almost 4 years and even posted daily installments before deciding that viewers didn't care for their drama in such tiny bits. Most of the show's characters have their own blogs and interactive features on the site, and of course they utilize myspace. Other shows, "the burg" comes to mind, have also had their characters set up myspace profiles and done everything Mr. Eisner is doing except for one detail. It's all being done for a fraction of the cost. Today's online audiences don't care how much money was spent on something (see ze frank, Ask a Ninja, etc.). They care about the content.
