Washington - The Newseum, a 250,000-square-foot news museum scheduled to open near the National Mall in October, said that it has landed a $6 million sponsorship from Atlanta-based media giant Cox Enterprises and the James M. Cox Foundation.

Both will sponsor an exhibit gallery celebrating the First Amendment that will feature films, artifacts and displays.

Cox becomes the ninth founding partner of the Newseum, whose list of sponsors already includes The New York Times, News Corp., NBC Universal and Time Warner, among others.

The museum has now raised $59 million from founding partners for the $435 million project.
