New York - MusicNet, the digital music and video service provider that powers services for Yahoo, MTV, HMV, Virgin, iMesh and others, announced that it served an average of 6.8 million streams and subscription downloads per day during January and February, or a total of over 400 million plays.

Founded in 1999 by AOL, RealNetworks and most of the major labels, New York-based MusicNet was acquired in 2005 by private equity group Baker Capital.

The company's catalog now includes more than 4 million songs and videos.

"The significant growth in subscription usage is consistent with MusicNet's prediction that subscription services would be the best and most desirable way for consumers to access music digitally," said MusicNet president and CEO Alan McGlade.

"Early signs suggest that subscription usage will continue to grow significantly this year as we add more partners and a greater diversity of more powerful devices become widely available."
