Silver Spring, Md. - Discovery Communications, the media company behind such cable TV channels as The Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet, has cut 200 jobs, or about 3% of its workforce.

The cuts, which will mostly affect Discovery's Silver Spring, Maryland location, include various positions, ranging from senior vice presidents to administrative assistants in divisions such as U.S. Networks and Education.

The news comes six months after Discovery hired former NBC Universal executive David Zaslav as its new president and CEO.

In February, the company announced a major corporate overhaul that included the departure of five senior executives.

The company has also warned that another round of cuts may be on the way, as it looks to trim the fat from other underperforming divisions.
