Apple: Leopard OS Launch Delayed; iPhone Took Precedence

Cupertino, Calif. - Apple said on Thursday that it will delay the launch of its new Macintosh operating system, Leopard, by four months, after the company was forced to borrow key resources from the project to complete its highly anticipated iPhone product.

"iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price," the company said in a statement.

"We had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team."

As a result, Apple said that it will be unable to release Leopard at its developers conference in June, instead waiting until October to ship the software. Developers will be given a beta copy of Leopard at the conference.

"Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we're sure we've made the right ones," said Apple.

The company said that it will ship iPhone in late June, as planned.
