San Francisco - Technorati, a provider of blog search and ranking services, on Thursday announced its first major acquisition, Personal Bee -- a provider of personal news aggregation pages.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

San Francisco-based Technorati tracks more than 72 million blogs and 230 million tagged media objects, like video and photos.

Berkeley, Calif.-based Personal Bee lets people create and publish collections of stories from citizen and mainstream media, and form interest-based communities around them.

"Technorati has evolved beyond searching the blogosphere to aggregating the vast amount of tagged social media that make up what we call the Live Web," said Personal Bee founder and CEO Ted Shelton.

"By joining forces with Technorati, we are adding flexible publishing capabilities so that everyone can find conversations, track up-and-coming ideas and stories, and customize the Live Web in any way they like."

Personal Bee's Shelton was named Technorati's vice president of business development, and will head the integration of Personal Bee services into Technorati's product offerings.
