Cambridge, Mass. - Akamai Technologies, a provider of content delivery network services that speed media content across the Internet, has acquired Red Swoosh, a provider of peer-to-peer technology for managing and distributing large media files.

The deal is valued at about $15 million in Akamai stock.

Cambridge, Mass.-based Akamai said that the acquisition of Red Swoosh is expected to augment its distributed Internet presence by combining client-side file management and distribution software with Akamai's back-end control system and network of edge servers.

San Francisco-based Red Swoosh will be integrated into Akamai's existing engineering team in California, the company said.
