New York - Rolling Stone magazine plans to launch its own online social network, a separate site that will offer the standard profiles along with the ability to vote on the magazine's "Best of" lists.
The story was first reported by a NYU journalism student whose class was visited by Keith Blanchard, Wenner Media's executive director for online media.
Rolling Stone is also digitizing its 1,000 back issues, which are slated to be made available on its website and as a DVD box set in the fall.
Blanchard did not provide a timeline for the launch of the social network.
