Raleigh, N.C. - The director of Student Legal Affairs at North Carolina State University has advised students who received file-sharing pre-litigation settlement letters from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to remain anonymous, and offered to represent students wishing to challenge any subpoenas, Technician Online, the N.C. State student newspaper, reported.

After sending 37 pre-litigation letters to N.C. State students in February, the RIAA last week filed 23 copyright infringement lawsuits against students who refused the pre-litigation settlement offers, which include subpoenas seeking their identities.

N.C. State director of Student Legal Affairs Pam Gerace told Technician Online that the RIAA will likely pair the subpoenas with new settlement offers, albeit seeking sums larger than those offered to settle in the pre-litigation letters.

Gerace said students still receiving letters from the RIAA should contact her office.
