Web 2.0 Expo: Google CEO Announces PowerPoint CloneAuthored by Scott Goldberg on April 17, 2007 - 12:46pm.
San Francisco – Google CEO Eric Schmidt told John Battelle today at the Web 2.0 Expo that a presentation application for the “Office” suite is nearly completed. Essentially a version of PowerPoint, speculation of the application has circled for months.
"We don't think it’s a competitor to Microsoft Office," Schmidt said in the interview. "It's casual and sharing and a better fit to how people use the Web. My guess is many companies in the audience are building products like this or other variants of this using the emerging architecture."
Battelle apparently disagreed with Schmidt’s assertion that a free alternative to Office doesn’t pose a threat, but Schmidt held his ground. |
