Santa Monica, Calif. - News Corp.'s MySpace on Thursday launched a test of a news aggregation service, which will cull stories from thousands of websites and blogs and let users vote to determine which are given highest prominence on MySpace.

"We're putting it to the community to be the editorial engine driving our news service," said MySpace co-founder and president Tom Anderson.

The service uses technology from NewRoo, a firm acquired by News Corp. in 2006; some of its features are similar to services like Digg or Reddit, although in this case MySpace will be selecting stories for inclusion.

MySpace News is organized into 25 main topics, like entertainment and sports, and further into 300 subcategories.

When a user clicks on a story, they are taken to the page on the original publisher's website, with a MySpace-branded frame surrounding the page that contains features like the ability to vote on stories, and the MySpace site navigation bar.
