Encino, Calif. - Emotive Communications, the developer of "push-ringer" ringtone technology that allows a caller to determine the ringtone heard by the person they are calling, has raised $7.7 million in its first round of venture capital financing, led by D.E. Shaw Group.

Other investors in the round included Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments and Warner Music Group.

Encino, Calif.-based Emotive's Ringjacker application, which works on 3G mobile phones and VoIP services like Skype, lets users determine the ringtone that plays when they call others, and also enables call recipients to purchase the ringtone pushed to their phones.
