New York - Toymaker Mattel on Friday introduced a Barbie-branded MP3 player, and the launch of a virtual world for young girls, called Barbie Girls.

The $59 Barbie Girl MP3 player features 512MB of flash memory and supports Microsoft's Windows Media Audio and MP3 formats. The device will ship in July to retailers in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia and New Zealand.

Mattel also introduced BarbieGirls.com, a virtual world that allows girls to create virtual avatars, design their own rooms, shop at the mall, watch videos, play games and chat with other girls. Mattel said the site includes safety features like chat room filters, user blocking, and human moderators.

The company plans to introduce the virtual world on four continents and more than a dozen countries, offering versions in Spanish, French, Italian, German and Portuguese.

Barbies gone virtual

I have one of these and there brill i love the way you can use them online to unlock the brill areas of site and the special items if you have one of these you can also adopt a cool pet.The mp 3 player itself is very good too its easy to load songs onto and the sound is great.

Barbie MP

WHERE did you buy it??????????

my daughter has the disney

my daughter has the disney magic stik and we have a very hard time downloading music on it thru the media player, Is the barbie mp3 player compatible with the windows media player if not where do you download music from onto the player?

Barbie MP3 Nightmare

I have now spent the past 3 days trying to unsuccessfully to download music to onto the new Barbie mp3 i have bought for my daughter for Christmas. After 2 emails to Mattel UK (no response) and 2 phone calls (1 response to date - advised to download some free software to convert files to MP3 and that he would send me the link - 24 hours later I am still waiting for his link but fortunately I noted it and have done that myself!) + (1 phone message for him to call me again - still pending) However all but the Barbie CD are DRM protected so won't convert. So now I can't figure out if the Switch software I downloaded will convert DRMs or if I now have to find another software that will do this for me. All in all I don't understand why something I thought would make an ideal present to pack away in our suitcases as we are going away for Christmas is turning out to ba such a nightmare! Any Suggestions!?

having the same issue!

I was searching for some help to load my daughters barbie mp3 player and came across your post. I have a full itunes library of music but cannot figure out how to transfer them to her mp3 player. I am learning that they are protected and I can't. Have you had any luck loading your daughter's with music yet? Thanks

Barbie downloading

I joined Rhapsody just to download music for my daughter and was having so much trouble! Then what I did was burn the music onto a cd and then transfer them to my hard drive. You can then open Windows Media player and rip the music onto your mp3. Worked beautifully.

What!?!

Dear Mattel toys, I am having the feeling that you are using these little girls to have your plastic barbie girl sold. whaen girls go to the cyber mall and to the clothing stores, they try on the BarbieGirl only clothes and wish they can have it and run to their parents begging them for mp3 player. THAT IS STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cool

i think barbie girl world is pretty cool and im 12 turning 13 in a month and if i think its cool its cool...they do have good fliters my gosh..u cant even say love...oh well...BUHBYE

I was able to upload some

I was able to upload some songs we already had on CD to my daughter's Barbie MP3 player using Windows Media Player. I think you can download anything that is in an MP3 format (Walmart.com offers some for sale), but I don't think it will work if it's in the WMA format (due to protections encoded). Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff my daughter wants is in the WMA format.

As I understand it isn't

As I understand it isn't worth to buy this player. Barbie MP3 Player isn't easy to support.

Barbie MP3 Player

Well... I'm not havin a prob loading MP3'S on to the player just having a problem getting the website to "UNLOCK" the supposed stuff its made for it says its not installed but it sure would be hard for me to load music if it wasn't >:( WTHeck freekin' kids stuff on a reg basis has NO TECH support I guess all these companies think meh the kids will just loose interest and find something else to occupy them when they cant get on so who cares... MATTEL is not the only one to have done this ... this is now the 3rd item I've found with the same SUPER CRAPPY level of tech support for a kids technological device GET IT TOGETHER MANUFACTURERS if your gunna build a piece of gear SUPPORT IT >:( #$%#^ CR
