McLean, Va. - Bucking a national trend for daily newspapers, Gannett's USA Today said that its daily circulation increased 0.2% during the latest six-month reporting period, as it remained the top selling paper in the U.S.

According to the Audit Bureau of Circulation, USA Today's daily circulation stood at nearly 2.3 million for the period ending March 31, with single copy newsstand sales up nearly 2% overt the past six months.

Nationally, the average circulation of daily newspapers shrunk 2.1% during the same period, while circulation at The Washington Post dipped 3.5% to 699,000.

Craig Moon, USA Today's president and publisher, said the numbers indicate that "we continue to have momentum" as the paper approaches its 25th anniversary.
