Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft announced on Thursday that it will acquire ScreenTonic, a Paris-based provider of mobile advertising technology. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 2001, ScreenTonic provides ad serving technology, as well as ad management and mobile media sales in Europe.

The company's ad technology was launched on network operator Orange's mobile portal in France in 2003.

"The acquisition of ScreenTonic will be part of our long-term strategy to deliver ad experiences that map to the environment," said Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the online services group at Microsoft.

"Together, we will be able to provide relevant ads where consumers are, when they are actively engaged and communicating."

thirdscreen media

seems like this space is heating up. third screen was bought by AOL. I'm hearing rumours of another company called Affle being bought out also. Anyone who is building traction is getting bought.
