Mobile Social Networking Firm Intercasting Corp. Raises $12 Million

San Diego - Intercasting Corp., a provider of mobile social networking technology, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $12 million in its second round of venture capital financing, led by Venrock Associates.

Previous investors Avalon Ventures and Masthead Venture Partners also participated.

Founded in 2004, San Diego-based Intercasting has developed its own mobile social networking application, Rabble, as well as a platform that allows wireless carriers to mobilize Web-based social networking and community sites.

Partners include AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Metro PCS, Virgin Mobile and 3UK, as well as social networking sites LiveJournal and Community Connect.

The company will use the funds to expand carrier-based distribution and partners for its products.
