Sydney - The Australian government has set aside about $10 million in the country's federal budget to combat piracy, Variety reported.

Last year, Australia introduced stiffer penalties for copyright crimes and granted extended powers to law enforcement.

The budget allocation was applauded by both the Motion Picture Association and its related Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft organization.
