San Jose, Calif. - Mobile entertainment distributor PlayPhone announced on Thursday that it has raised $18.75 million in its third round of venture capital financing, led by Scale Venture Partners.

Previous investors Cardinal Venture Partners and Menlo Ventures also participated.

Launched in 2003, San Jose, Calif.-based PlayPhone distributes mobile games, ringtones, video, wallpapers and other mobile entertainment content directly to consumers through its PlayPhone.com portal.

The company also powers mobile portals for Sega, ABC, Bandai, Lycos and RealNetworks.

PlayPhone will use the funds to expand into additional international markets this year.
