New York - Podcast aggregation site Odeo announced on Thursday that its assets have been acquired by SonicMountain, a provider of digital media hosting and search services.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Launched in July 2005 by Blogger co-creator Evan Williams, San Francisco-based Odeo provides an index of free Web audio content and podcasts, as well as tools for listening, downloading and subscribing to podcasts.

New York-based SonicMountain plans to provide hosting services for audio and video podcasts on Odeo, in addition to making improvements in content organization, search and discovery.

Williams' Web product development company, Obvious, is currently focusing on its latest creation, the Twitter mobile blogging tool.
