Buzz Watch: Playboy Opens a Virtual Mansion in Second Life

Hugh Hefner’s current girlfriends look more plastic than any “girl next door” I’ve ever seen – so the step to bunny avatars in virtual worlds might be a natural progression for the Playboy empire. Details on how exactly Playboy will appear in Second Life in June are scarce, though some reports say a virtual Playboy mansion and grotto might be in the works.

It makes sense for a brand like Playboy, a multibillion dollar empire built on guys vivid imagination, to expand into a 3D fantasy world where people can fly and computer geeks can get an invitation to the Playboy mansion and perhaps score with virtual playboy bunny.

I don’t think its far-fetched to assume that the virtual Playboy mansion will be a hit with Second Life’s approximately 6.2 million residents (though only 1.8 million have logged on in the last 60 days, according to statistics from Linden Lab).
