DirecTV Considering Test of Powerline Broadband Service

New York - Satellite TV provider DirecTV is considering testing technology that could deliver broadband Internet access to consumers' homes over existing power lines, CEO Chase Carey said at a media conference on Monday, Reuters reported.

Currently, rival cable TV providers have an advantage with their ability to deliver broadband access in addition to TV service.

"We think it would be a good thing to have a third, a fourth or a fifth entrant in broadband and if we can be helpful in pushing that forward and if there's an opportunity for us to intelligently invest in doing so, we would," Carey remarked, adding that DirecTV would like to test the technology in a "top 50 city where you're covering at least half the city."
