Sunnyvale, Calif. -Wireless device giant Motorola said on Thursday that it will acquire Sunnyvale-based Modulus Video, a developer of MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) compression systems used in the delivery of video content.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Motorola, which has partnered with Modulus for more than two years, said that the deal will complement its recent acquisitions of Broadbus, Kreatel, Tut Systems and Netopia, adding to its video delivery system for multiple network architectures.

The deal is expected to close around mid-year, when Modulus will become a unit of Motorola and be integrated into the Motorola Home and Networks Mobility business.

The company's operations are expected to remain in Sunnyvale, Calif.
