Washington - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved Apple's iPhone for sale in the U.S., clearing the way for the company's first mobile phone to be released in late June by AT&T/Cingular.
"The iPhone has passed its required FCC certification milestone and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned," Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris told Reuters.
News of the approval sent the company's shares up over 2% in trading on Thursday.
