Washington - A software problem caused an unknown number of subscribers to XM Satellite Radio to experience outages in their service for about a day, the Associated Press reported.
Service returned to normal on Tuesday afternoon, XM said on its website.
"The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of the satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a temporary loss of signal from one of the company's satellites," the company said.
XM has about 8 million subscribers. The news sent company shares down more than 1% by midday Tuesday.
