Seattle - Online retailer Amazon.com announced on Wednesday its acquisition of Brilliance Audio, an independent publisher of audiobooks. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1984, Grand Haven, Mich.-based Brilliance Audio offers a wide range of best-selling adult fiction and nonfiction titles in audiobook format.

In connection with the deal, Amazon said its CustomFlix on-demand manufacturing unit will now support both standard CD and MP3-CD audiobook formats on its Disc on Demand service.

Amazon said the acquisition will allow it to work closely with the publishing community to expand the number of books produced in audio format.
