London - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced plans to add the ability to place VoIP calls, video calls and voice messages to its PSP handheld game system, initially in the U.K., with plans to extend the service into Europe.

Sony and partner British Telecommunications (BT) also plan to integrate PC, mobile phone and landline integration into the service.

"The PSP is an excellent device for both gaming and communications because of its high quality screen and audio capabilities," said BT head of mobility and convergence Steve Andrews.

"With over 8 million PSPs shipped across Europe, we are very excited by the opportunity to give customers a whole new communications experience, connecting and seeing friends across the world through BT's technology."
