Universal Music Group, eLabs is seeking a Senior Analyst, Business Development for the New York, NY office.
Overview: eLabs is Universal Music Group’s digital music strategy and business development group, responsible for defining UMG’s digital strategy via content licensing deals, leveraging of emerging technologies and the creation of new business models for digital music and video assets. eLabs is based in Los Angeles with an office in New York, and is comprised of technologists, lawyers and business development personnel. Responsibilities: • Act as a key participant in developing Universal Music Group's digital music strategy for current and future technology applications. • Evaluate and develop recommendations on business opportunities with potential distribution, marketing and technology partners. • Perform industry and market research for deal evaluation and strategy, including areas such as: digital downloads, music subscription models, mobile personalization products, satellite and internet radio, ad-supported business models and peer-to-peer platforms. • Analyze and assess the economics of new business models and pending deals. • Track and report on sales trends and pricing strategies for emerging digital music businesses. • Develop an in-depth understanding of digital audio and video streaming / downloading, peer-to-peer networking technologies, digital rights management formats, and copyright and intellectual property issues. • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor Requirements: • BS/BA degree with 3-6 years of work experience. • Ideal prior work experience: corporate development for a media company; management consulting; investment banking or other quantitative financial background. Focus on technology, internet, mobile or entertainment industries. • Advanced Excel user, able to create and run detailed financial models (for example, build a P&L and run scenarios to analyze a subscription business). • Excellent communication skills and strategy development capabilities. Must be able to develop PowerPoint presentations that convey complex issues clearly and concisely. • Strong interest in music and digital media preferred. • Some knowledge of and experience with current events and technologies in the digital music "space."
