San Mateo, Calif. - Gemini Mobile, a developer of wireless software infrastructure that includes a 3D community platform, announced that it has raised $5 million in a new round of financing, led by Japan's Access Co.

New investors Aplix Corporation and Nomura Securities, and previous investor Mitsubishi-UFJ Capital also participated in the round, which follows on the company's recent $20 million investment from Goldman Sachs.

San Mateo, Calif.-based Gemini provides both a messaging platform, and eXplo, a 3D community platform for mobile that lets users chat, share photos and shop on a 3D graphical interface.

The technology has been employed by SoftBank Japan on its S! Town service; other customers include Vodafone, Alcatel-Lucent and Telecom Italia.

Access and Aplix said they plan to explore sales and distribution of eXplo as well.

The new financing will be used for general business purposes, including development of eXplo and international expansion.
