What is the name of the movie?

I remember seeing a color movie either in the late-50's or the early-60's in which a speculator? or in any case someone had some shares in an old defunct company (in New England?) that used to make WIDGETS. After alot of investigating, and interviewing of some of the original owners of the Widget company, it was discovered that way back when, the company had invested heavily in AT&T, before it became the big company that it did, and that the stock was worth a bunch. I thought that the lead was played by a James Garner-type or Carey Grant-type actor...can't remember who the girl was. Any help in identifying the movie would be appreciated.
