European Commission Awaits Reply From Apple, Labels on Antitrust Concerns

Brussels - The European Commission has granted an extension to Apple and the major record labels on a deadline it imposed on them to respond to allegations of anti-competitive behavior with regard to iTunes Store pricing, Billboard reported.

Two months ago, the Commission voiced its objections to alleged territorial restrictions on digital music sales agreed on by Apple and the labels.

The Commission pointed out that citizens of one country may only purchase songs from their country's iTunes Store, even if the same songs are cheaper if purchased from a neighboring country's iTunes storefront.

Apple and the major labels now have until June 20 to respond to the Commission's objections.
