New York - A music publisher and several French sports leagues have joined a class action copyright infringement suit against Google's YouTube video site.

The new plaintiffs in the suit -- which was originally filed by the English Premier League soccer organization and music publisher Borune Co. -- include Cherry Lane Music Publishing, French tennis organization Federation Française de Tennis and French soccer league Ligue de Football Professionel.

"We are pleased to see other copyright holders joining us in what we are trying to achieve," said Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson.

"They clearly recognize the need to take action against YouTube and Google to protect the value of their rights. We anticipate these latest parties are just the 'tip of the iceberg', and more will follow."

Filed in federal court in New York on May 4, the lawsuit asks a judge to stop YouTube's unauthorized use of plaintiffs' creative works, and compel the company to employ copyright filters; it also seeks unspecified damages for past infringements.
