Buzz Watch: Paris Hilton Being Put Back in Jail, Sobbing and Screaming, is Big NewsAuthored by Jay Baage on June 8, 2007 - 11:23am.
A sheriff's car picked up a crying Paris Hilton at her Hollywood home on Friday and took her to court for a hearing on whether she should return to jail or not. It turns out she was ordered back to jail to serve out the remainder of her sentence. Hilton reportedly left the courtroom in tears, screaming, "Mom, Mom, Mom." As I was driving to work this morning I saw the flock of media helicopters that followed the heiress on her “perp drive” in the black and white police cruiser to the courthouse. This is as big of a news story as any commercial news channel can hope to get these days. The picture of the spoiled super-rich pop-culture icon being driven away from her Hollywood home sobbing in the back of a police cruiser is golden for most ad supported news outlets these days (pic from IMFDaily via tmz.com). Gone are the days of just gossip rags reporting on this stuff. CNN is now Paris Hilton news central. No wonder, this story has everything that sells – sex, money, crime, court-room drama and a famous person getting nailed like a regular crook. In case you have not been following this and don’t want to feel left out around the water-cooler, here is the background to Friday's proceedings: Judge Sauer granted an emergency hearing to demand that the Sheriff's Department put Hilton back in jail after it was requested by Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo (he had accused the department of disobeying the judge's original sentencing orders, which explicitly forbade her being sent home early with house arrest and electronic monitoring). So what makes this interesting is that there might actually be a real story in all of this, beyond the gossip aspect of it. Paris was released early Thursday and reassigned to home detention after serving just three days of her minimum 23-day sentence. Did her lawyers manipulate the system? It looks like someone screwed up, since the judge sent her back to jail. However, while we hold our breath to find out if Hilton stays in jail this time, enjoy this rather witty music video from Allan Murray and Sean Haines of omovies.com - a lament from Paris in regards to her incarceration (thanks to The Daily Reel, but running very slowly because of high traffic I presume). By the way, for those of you out there who are into conspiracy theories, is it a coincidence that all this goes down as the season premiere of Paris Hilton's show on E! The Simple Life Goes to Camp is right around the corner? Joakim Baage |
