Santa Monica, Calif. - Social media company Demand Media announced on Tuesday that it has acquired ExpertVillage.com, a provider of an assortment of pro and amateur "how-to" videos.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in April 2006, Austin-based ExpertVillage.com features over 17,000 short how-to videos, on everything from Pilates to origami, contributed by more than 1,000 experts.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based Demand Media -- which is owned by former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt -- said the deal will greatly expand its library of video content, which is distributed across a network of niche social media websites, and made available for users of its Channelme.tv service.

Demand Media also plans to increase the scale of ExpertVillage's business and expand into new content areas.
