Sony Threatens Legal Action Against PlayStation 3 Hackers

London - Sony said it will aggressively pursue legal action against anyone discovered hacking the security software on its PlayStation 3 so it will play pirated games, GamesIndustry.biz reported.

The threat comes after ComputerAndVideoGames.com reported that hackers have cracked several versions of the PlayStation 3's firmware, though none have yet been able to get pirated games booted on the system to actually play.

"Unfortunately, hackers will try to exploit any hardware system software," Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson Dave Karraker told GamesIndustry.biz.

"The best we can do as a company is to make our security that much stronger and aggressively pursue legal action against anyone caught trying to use an exploit in an illegal manner."
