San Mateo, Calif. - Tapatap, a mobile and Web social contest community, on Thursday announced the beta launch of its service, and initial funding of $2.5 million from Gabriel Venture Partners.

The San Mateo, Calif.-based company is targeting teens with its social network that lets users create and participate in photo contests surrounding movies, music, TV, news, sports and lifestyle topics, either from a PC or mobile phone.

Tapatap's management team includes the co-founders of Atlas Mobile.
