Beijing - Google has been granted preliminary approval by the Chinese government to provide Internet content in the country, Reuters reported.
A license from China's Ministry of Information and Industry would allow Google to provide news content to Chinese Internet users, and likely improve its ability to attract online advertising there.
Baidu, currently the largest search provider in China, won a similar content license from the Chinese government earlier this year.
