Arlington, Va. - Nearly three-quarters of U.S. online adults listen to audio on their home computers, but only 9% have it set up so they can listen to music on their computers on home stereo systems, according to a study conducted by the Consumer Electronics Association.

The study found that 77% of home PC audio users listen to music on their PC an average of nine hours per week; although CDs remain the primary source, Internet and digital file listening are also significant.

While 86% of PC audio listeners are satisfied with the listening experience, more than one-third cite the need for better sound quality.

"The PC has claimed its place as a hub of audio content procurement and playback in the home," said Steve Koenig, CEA's senior manager of industry analysis.

"The next step is to allow consumers to see the benefits of connecting their PC to their existing home audio system for a more enjoyable home audio experience."
